2009 Burn's
Night Dinner This year's Burn's Night Dinner was held at the Baton Rouge Garden Club. We sat down to a sumptuous feast of delicacies brought by those attending. The event was managed by the inimitable Mrs. Polly Williams in her usual great style. She was ably assisted by Della Sinclair, Margaret McDougal and Ruby Campbell (please forgive the me if I have left out someone.)
Lyndon Williams and the Scottish Country Dancers of the BR Caledonian Society did a fantastic job of demonstrating the Scottish folk dance and even got a goodly number of spectators to try their hand at it. In addition, we were most fortunate to have Sophia Renke perform several Highland Dances for us. Sophia is from Alberta Canada and is here in Baton Rouge to pursue her master's degree at LSU. The speakers for this year brought back a good bit of nostalgia to mind. The following photo was taken at the CSBR Burn's Night dinner in 1991. Then President Tom Mungall III was giving the address to the Haggis.
From left to right, the gentlemen in the picture are Tom Murray, Miller Dial, a Wee Bairn, Tom Mungall III, Tom Mungall, Jr., Ron Temple, Kenn Campbell, Eric Barclay, Archie Shaw. Oh yes, the Whisky was a 16 year old Lagavulin. Now the Wee Bairn standing next to Tom is his son Jamie who watched in awe as his dad gave the Address.
Now turn the clock ahead to 2009 and we have this photo:
Left to right we have Pipe Major Stan Masinter, Lyndon Williams, Eric Barclay, Polly Williams, Joe McD. Campbell, the very same Jamie Mungall, Kenn Campbell, Glenn Sinclair, and Dave McDougall. In addition to his prowess at addressing the Haggis, Jamie is an excellent Scottish Country Dancer.
Below are a number of photos taken at the event all taken courtesy of Tom Mungall III.
